Tapak Suci: The sign of National Culture from Muhammadiyah

lpmcampus.ukm.ums.ac.id- Wednesday(6/6/2018), dozens of people stood gently in front of Jazman Auditorium. They were wearing red uniform with some yellow strips on it. Moments later, two of them walked forward while the rest of it still sat down. 

One person who wore blue belt set a little explanation, the others, who wears yellow belt were waiting for instructions. After several movements, all of them stood up and move formerly exemplified. They looked powerful, nimble, and eager.  As if fasting month is not impacted on their stamina.

All of those people are usually called as Tapak Suci Putra Muhammadiyah. For the student from Sport Education Department, the training is usually set every Friday, start from 1 PM until 3 PM. While for the other is set on Monday and Thursday from 3 PM to 5.30 PM.

“In Ramadhan, the exercise remains the same. We only diminish the hard exercise like fighting. Because, if the soul had joined the exercise, they shall not feel the idleness,” said Mr. Eko Sudarmanto, one of the Pendekar who participate in this training.

In Tapak Suci there are three levels, namely Siswa, Kader, and Pendekar. To be the coach, the minimal levels is Kader Melati 1. Kader Level usually trains the technical things, while Pendekar is usually train about the organization and wisdom. If the Kader is not in presence, Pendekar can interferes the training. Besides as a sports facilities, martial arts also develop the character of human.

“Martial arts is the culture of the nation, and Muhammadiyah has this ( red: Tapak Suci)” said Mr. Eko Sudarmanto in the end of our interview that evening.
